WHY I DON'T USE THE PHRASE CAPSULE WARDROBE

Writer's picture: Raquel GarciaRaquel Garcia

We have heard about capsule wardrobes now for a very long time. The word and concept have been linked with neutral colours, classic pieces and styles that easily go with one another when getting dressed in the morning. Yet this does not have to work for everyone.

The word has become overused and overrated.

With a capsule wardrobe concept you run the risk of being scared of buying items because you can "mess up" your perfectly curated wardrobe. The word capsule sounds constrictive to me, and the idea of perfectly matching everything in your wardrobe does not leave room in my head for flexibility and fun.

A capsule collection is created by a brand as a one-off, a small number of pieces that are cohesive with one another. The collection is static in a shop, yet has a life on its own, and then numerous people will buy certain pieces, but very rarely will they buy the whole capsule collection.

That's why it makes sense in a shop, and it works for selling purposes as it looks amazing within the shop and on its own.

However translating this concept to our own wardrobes, to the different activities we do, the different personas we become in our lives, it's a tricky concept. A wardrobe is a live organism, that helps us every day be our best version, and it needs to be dynamic yet cohesive.

A collection of clothing

When I work with women, I create collections, because more than one piece may be thrown into the mix that may not work "by the rules" and makes sense to the whole other pieces, yet it is cohesive with the style.

Creating a collection gives me freedom, fun, personality and style for the client. And the most fun part, is they get to experience after I have gone, adding more pieces to that collection once they have clarity of who they are and without making many mistakes purchases.

Crear colecciones me da libertad, diversión, flexibilidad y personalidad a la clienta.

Are you ready to create your own collection?

I know I was! and I started years ago!

¿Estás lista para crear tu propia colección?

Yo se que lo he estado y he llegado hasta aqui. Sólo falta empezar.

Raquel.

  • Will I have to get rid of all my clothes?
Not at all! The goal is to work with what you already have and refine your wardrobe, not to start from scratch. We’ll assess what truly aligns with your style, what can be repurposed, and what might not be serving you anymore. The process is about intention—curating a wardrobe that supports your style, not just replacing everything for the sake of it.
  • Will the Style Breakthrough service change me into someone I’m not?
Absolutely not! This service isn’t about forcing you into a specific style or making you dress in a way that doesn’t feel like you. Instead, it’s about uncovering and refining the style that already aligns with who you are at this stage of your life. Think of it as a process of self-discovery—one that empowers you to feel more confident, authentic, and in control of your wardrobe.
